Celebrating the National Heritage Fellows

Join us this Memorial Day weekend to celebrate the National Endowment for the Arts Heritage Fellows. This year’s honorees include: Filipino rondalla musician Tagumpay Mendoza De Leon; Osage ribbon worker and ceramicist Anita Fields; documentary filmmaker and preservationist Tom Davenport; Louisiana’s Winnsboro Easter Rock gospel ensemble; Hill Country blues drummer and guitarist Cedric Burnside; Puerto Rican mundillo lace weaver Nellie Vera; Irish flute and whistle maven Joanie Madden; Chicago tap dancer Reginald “Reggio the Hoofer” McLaughlin; and the Mexican American band from East Los Angeles, Los Lobos. Plus music from prior awardees including Del McCoury, Mavis Staples, Dr. Michael White and John Lee Hooker.

AFTER THE STORM VIII: A YEAR IN THE FLOOD'S WAKE

August 23rd, 2006

It’s a reflection on New Orleans and the Gulf South, one year after the Flood of ’05. We’ve got an interview and live performance from historic Congo Square with New Orleans native and trumpeter Wynton Marsalis. Visit with the men repairing the Superdome. And Louisiana voices, including Irma Thomas, Allen Toussaint, and David and Michael Doucet recall their storm experiences. The words and music of post-deluge New Orleans, one year after the storm.
